These words make up a large proportion of what we read and many of them have irregular or difficult spellings. They are also known as key words as many of them play an important part in making sentences make sense.
These are the next group of most frequently used words and, like the high frequency words, play an important role grammatically in sentences.
Computer activities give the child further practice at reading and spelling the target words in a fun way. They can be used to practice the words before doing the target test or can be used as reinforcement (over-learning) once the words are known.
It is a common trait in dyslexics that 'learnt' spellings are often forgotten again a few days later. The repetition of words is to allow another opportunity to learn the spelling and also a way of reinforcing correct spellings (over-learning). Remember that these exercises are done over a period of a few weeks rather than all at once so that some words will be forgotten.
